1-16-10 to 1-18-10 Level 1 Avalanche Course

We had a full house for our third Level 1 AIARE Course of the season. 12 aspiring back-country skiiers and riders came to North Conway to attend this course and we had some pretty interesting observations to make!

After a day of classroom we headed out to Crawford Notch during our "Observational Outing".
We came across some significant recent avalanche activity that was triggered less than 24 hours prior, most likely from the really warm weather we had the day before...
We conducted some snowpack observation tests...
On our 3rd day we toured up into some bigger terrain on Mt. Washington...
We really started to realize that the snowpack is made up of many distinct layers...
